Historical Society Person of the Year

The Mount Holly Historical Society in coordination with the Mount Holly Community Awards Committee (MHCAC) is seeking nominations for the 2026 Historical Society Person of the Year. Nominations will be accepted for individuals from the past or those who are still living. The Society Board will review all nominations and name the recipient of the award using the criteria listed below. The 2026 Historical Society Person of the Year will be announced at the annual Mount Holly Community Dinner on April 30th.

Purpose of the Historical Society Person of the Year

The purpose of selecting a Historic Person of the Year for Mount Holly is to:

  1. Recognize and honor an individual from our past whose life and actions shaped our history through innovation, a specific accomplishment, or lifetime achievement; OR

  2. Recognize and honor a person in the present who went above and beyond regular volunteers to engage the community in preservation of Mount Holly’s cultural heritage.

Criteria for Historical Person from the Past

The contributions of this man or woman from the past should have changed and/or shaped Mount Holly’s history in some way. Examples of contributions include but are not limited to:

  • Invention

  • Specific accomplishment

  • Life-time achievement

  • Innovation

Criteria for Historical Person from the Present

The person from the present should have gone above the average volunteer to engage the community in the preservation of Mount Holly’s cultural heritage by:

  • Conserving, maintaining, or managing the Mount Holly Museum

  • Collecting artifacts and initiating programs to educate and celebrate our history

Examples of specific activities for the Historical Person from the Present are:

  • Preservation of historic sites or graveyards

  • Writing a church history

  • A “founding father” of the Mount Holly Museum

  • Collection of artifacts

Criteria for Historical Person from Past or Present

  • The contributions of this person, from the past or present, should reflect the values of service, leadership, and commitment.

  • The contributions of this person, from the past or present, should impact, influence, or benefit the Mount Holly community.

  • The contributions of this person, from the past or present, should affect or inspire future generations.

Instructions for Submitting a Nomination

  1. All nominations submitted must use the Nomination Form attached to this announcement.

  2. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

  3. No attachments will be accepted (letters of support, resumes, etc.).

  4. While there is no limit in the length of the information requested on nominees, conciseness is appreciated.

  5. Nominations will be accepted beginning on February 1, 2026 and must be received NO LATER THAN March 16, 2026.

Submit a Nomination for Historical Society Person of the Year

General Instructions

• Assume the selection committee is not familiar with your nominee. Use specific examples and descriptive language to highlight the business’s commitment to exceptional customer service.

• Understand that the selection committee will judge nominees based on how they fit the criteria listed for this award.

• Avoid general statements. Describe what the business has done, how it delivers superior service, and what impact it has had on its customers and the community.

• Please provide all information completely and clearly. Incomplete forms will not be considered.

• Submit all materials by the deadline of March 16, 2026.

If you choose to nominate someone for the Historical Society Person of the Year, all information should be sent to the Historical Society Board by March 16.

The Board of the Historical Society will elect the nominee it believes best embodies the criteria for this award. The award will be presented at the Community Awards Dinner on April 30.
